John Deere Repairs, A New President, and Lackluster Tractor Sales

January 21, 2025

One of the major news items I find most interesting is the John Deere lawsuit situation. It’s being reported all over the place, and probably has some sort of effect on plenty of our readers.

I suppose anything concerning John Deere equipment can have widespread implications in the industry.

The latest news is the FTC suing Deere over the right to repair issues. Basically calling the restrictions on repairs illegal, the FTC is trying to free up individual owners and independent shops to fix their equipment themselves. At least Deere equipment that relies on the Service ADVISOR software.

I don’t think Deere will have much restriction in how we go about repairing our 4640.

Yes, fairly mangled tractor

Nevertheless, this is an interesting news item to follow in the future to see if it has any direct impact on John Deere equipment owners.

The new president took office today, and with that will probably (hopefully) come a flurry of changes and new directions. I know many are hoping for some positive response to the economy, both at a macro and micro level.

As always there are thousands of variables at play in the economy, but Trump is promoting several ideas that could be major ones. Mainly the tariffs, border clamp down, and efforts to fight inflation. Most agree things have been trending the wrong way, so it remains to be seen how the executives efforts will pan out.

Apparently the tractor market is suffering quite a bit compared to last year. I know I’m not surprised. Revenue is down around %20 from last year. If you are in the ag industry I doubt you will be surprised by this either. Judging by this image in the report (constellation dealer) it seems particularly bad in the south.

As always feedback is welcome, just respond to the email.
